The McLaren 570S features a seven-speed, dual-clutch Seamless Shift Gearbox that shifts faster than any human could do on their own. It also has a distinctive, shark-like front snout streamlined appearance. The hood doubles as a front trunk (“frunk”), with enough space for two carry-on baggage.
The 570S’ sport steering wheel features a race-style clipped bottom and huge paddle shifters linked to the wheel on a rocker so that shifting may be done from either side (up or down).
The transmission goes up to 8,500 RPM before redlining, and the McLaren 570S has no “park” option. Place the transmission in Neutral and engage the electronic parking brakes instead.
These are independent brake units from the Brembo brakes that stop the 570S.
The majority of the cockpit of the McLaren 570S is simple and basic.
McLaren’s “Iris” system provides infotainment, which is rather basic and focuses more on audio and performance stats.
At high speeds, the McLaren’s characteristics take center stage. The 570S comes fitted with Adaptive Damping, which aids the double-wishbone independents with three different mode options. The ability to tweak the suspension and drivetrain separately on the fly is unique to this car. Each of the two selecting knobs above the transmission buttons has three positions.
One on the left is labeled “H,” which means “handling.” There are three settings there: normal, sport, and track, as well as a button in the center that toggles electronic stability control (ESC).
The suspension cushions more than you’d expect from a sports car in “Normal” setting, but not to the point where you forget you’re driving a sports car.
The letter “P” stands for powertrain on the right. Normal, Sport, and Track are also available.
As you turn the knob to the right, the engine/transmission is tuned to each of the three modes, which become more aggressive.
Three more buttons are located behind those two knobs. The Launch Control toggle is on the left, the active suspension toggle is in the middle (turning it off), and the engine stop-start control is on the right.
The butterfly wing doors are also stunning to look at, and they open and close with a piston-assisted mechanism that eliminates the most of the work.
